Whatcha’ Readin’? - 10 Minutes till Bedtime

care of especially if they were lost. (Hmm…that does sound a little weird. I’m not that obsessive now, really.
My children enjoy their books too and you may be able to tell by the ravaged edges on this book, that they like it a lot. 10 Minutes till Bedtime is written by Peggy Rathmann. I became familiar with her when I noticed the illustrations in two of our favorite books looked alike (I read movie credits too). The illustrations are great and the detail is amazing. Be sure to not only read the words, but pay attention to “a little boy’s imagination” in the ten minutes he has before bedtime because there, you will find the story. The story opens with father announcing to his son, who’s expectantly waiting at the window, that he has “10 minutes till bedtime.” Unlike most children, his son is not bothered by that and appears to almost be rather excited because he receives visitors who help him with his bedtime preparation. There is fun to be enjoyed on every page and children can learn to count backwards as the minutes tick away until bedtime. Although this is Schubaboobaly’s pick this week, my older two children (even Daddy and Mommy) enjoy reading this book. The children like pointing out the antics of the hamsters and even noticed that the little boy has the same interest in book selection (you’ll have to read to find out). At the stroke of the last minute ending, we all yell, “BED TIME!,” as loud as we can. My children sure can yell. Each of them kisses the little boy goodnight, like his father, and then it’s time for them to also go to bed. We now have a saying in our home when someone looks (or acts) sleepy and say, “you have ten minute to bedtime eyes.” With that stated, the culprit knows it’s time to go to bed. Update: We had to stop reading The Chronicles of Narnina because someone had a few nightmares. Not too disturbing, but we decided to start again later. |
